River City Church is a place for people on every part of the spiritual journey, from those just investigating whether there is a God, to those who have made following Christ the priority of their life. The Bible presents a message of life change for those that call themselves Christians. Through scripture, we have come to understand that every person should be moving closer to being the complete image of Christ in every area of life. This is not always a comfortable process. In fact, the grace of Jesus gives us the ability and desire that our lives be transformed. “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God continually transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.” Romans 12:2 “You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God’s likeness-righteous, holy and true.” Ephesians 4:24
Life was not meant to be done alone. In Genesis after God made everything, He said that it was good. But, when He looked at man He said, “It is not good for man to be alone.” At River City Church we value true authentic relationships that encourage one another and yes, even correct one another in love. Being known and knowing others leads us to a place where we are no longer “fake”. We value creating an environment where there are no masks. You don’t have to fake it. We want you to be able to be real about where you are in life. "And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near." Hebrews 10:25
Acceptance & Expectance
We are compelled by the audacious grace of the gospel that accepts all people and we are committed to the never-ending work of the gospel that challenges us to expect that we will never stop growing."You didn't choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won't spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you." John 15:16 (MSG)
Discovering God's Unique Plan For You
At River City Church we celebrate the fact that each of us are unique. The Bible compares the church to the body of Christ. Each person plays a vital part in our church. When we function as the body of Christ, we are in effect the closest thing to Christ that a watching world will see until His return. “He is the one who gave these gifts to us to be apostles, prophets, evangelists and pastors and teachers, to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:12 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things that he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 We have many areas within River City Church where you can serve. Our desire is to help everyone feel free to serve in a way that energizes them and aligns with how God uniquely made them. We would love to help you discover where God may be calling you to serve.
We believe that God called us to go beyond just serving inside the walls of our church. We are committed to work with local compassion and justice partners in our cities by partnering with ministries, agencies, and organizations that are making a difference in battling poverty and injustice. “You are the light of the world-like a city on a mountain glowing in the night for all to see.” Matthew 5:14 “When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:7
As we start to follow Christ we see that life is not about “us". We have been given life to exalt Jesus and to be a blessing to those around us. By being a generous church with our time, talent, and treasures we show the world that we value Him more than the things of this world. The Scripture teaches us to give a percentage of our income as an act of worship. This act reminds us that all we have is a gift from God and we are called to steward what He has given us. As a church we contribute 10% of every weekend’s offering and set it aside for both local and world missions. “All the believers were of one heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. Selling their possessions and goods they gave to anyone as they had need.” Acts 2:44; 4:32
